| Jan 22 | Rev Carol Rosine | Cultivating a Spirit of Generosity
The Rev. Tom Owen-Towle writes that undergirding basic virtues like love, hope, acceptance, contentment, courage, & humility is a spirit of generosity. Because, he says, “without generosity, one loves sparingly; without generosity, one acts for justice rarely; without generosity, one withholds, hides-out, hordes—one simply grows stingy of gift and time and soul.” |
| Jan 29 | Rev Carol Rosine | Keeping the Sabbath
“I’m so busy” seems to be a universal refrain. According to Wayne Muller, “we say this to one another as if our exhaustion were a trophy, our ability to withstand stress a mark of character.” Perhaps it is time to reconsider the biblical injunction to “Keep the Sabbath.” |
| Feb 5 | Rev. Kate Wilkinson | Wisdom at the Edges
Our guest preacher serves as a community minister at the UU Urban Ministry in Roxbury where she engages hundreds of UU and community volunteers in social justice programs for at risk youth and survivors of domestic violence. |
| Feb 12 | Rev Carol Rosine | Love Breaks Down Doors
Carter Heyward, the first woman ordained to the Episcopalian priesthood, says this: “We are not automatic lovers of self, others, world, or God. Love does not just happen…. Love is a choice…” A sermon for Valentine’s Day. |
| Feb 19 | Rev Carol Rosine | The Preacher of Universal Love
The poet Charles Olson says “These days/ Whatever you have to say, leave/ the roots on, let them dangle// And the dirt/ Just to make clear/ Where they came from.” On this Sunday we’ll hear the words of our Universalist ancestor, the Reverend Hosea Ballou. |
| Feb 26 | Mr. Barb Greve, Guest Preacher | Courage from Necessity
Gender is a multilayered and complex piece of our identities. Our guest preacher, Mr. Barb Greve, will share some of his insights and personal story. Barb is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist transgender guy. He holds an MDiv from Starr King School for the ministry and currently serves as consulting director of lifespan religious education to the Unitarian Society of Newton, MA. Immediately following the service there will be a discussion session with Barb. |
