| Renaissonics' stylish performances allow audiences to experience
the elegance and excitement of Renaissance music as it was intended to
be heard. These "unabashed virtuosi" (Boston Globe) blend their individual
expertise into an approach that is both historical and contemporary, joyously
serving up chamber music, dance music, and dazzling improvisations. |

Sunday, February 6 "2" |
Mary Jane Rupert, harpist Peter H. Bloom, flutes Frank Grimes, guest violist |
|
| Flutist Peter H. Bloom and harpist Mary Jane Rupert, who have toured
the globe as the duo "2", will be joined by noted violist Frank Grimes in
a vivid program of fascinating contrasts. Highlights will include the
magnificent Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, by Claude Debussy, and the
New England première of Butterfly Effects, by Elizabeth Vercoe. Butterfly
Effects was written for "2" and received its world première during their
2009 tour of Thailand. The piece showcases the full expressive range of
the concert harp with the entire flute family (flute, alto flute, bass flute,
and piccolo). Other selections will include the lush and thrilling Fantaisie
(Op. 124), by Camille Saint-Saëns, and the witty Five Miniatures, by Jean Françaix. |

| Sunday, March 27 | Stephen Drury, pianist | ![]() Stephen Drury |
|
| Pianist and conductor Stephen Drury has performed throughout the
world with a repertoire that stretches from Bach to Liszt to the music
of today. He will present two juggernauts of the piano repertoire: Beethoven's
"Hammerklavier" Sonata, and American composer Frederic Rzewski's "The People
United Will Never Be Defeated!" (1975) - each encompassing the whole range of
musical experience. While the Beethoven sonata sums up the history of musical
structure and keyboard writing, the Rzewski takes a Chilean song, known
throughout Latin America as a rallying cry for social justice, and creates
36 variations ranging from tender to violent, jazzy to inspiring. Drury's
performances of contemporary music have received the highest critical acclaim. |
