| September 30 | Pianist Oni Buchanan "A Moonlight Recital" |
![]() |
| The moon has been a source of inspiration for
many composers. Come hear Debussy's "Clair
de Lune" and Beethoven's regal
"Moonlight Sonata". "Star Burning
Blue", a piece by contemporary composer
Kelly-Marie Murphy, depicts a supergiant star. And no
moonlight recital would be complete without Nocturnes
by Chopin, Barber, and Fauré. A published
poet, Oni brings creativity, vision, and artistry to
all she does. "Her playing is informed by a
persuasively lyrical touch in the service of great
poise and charm," says Russell Sherman,
Distinguished Artist in Residence, New England
Conservatory. |
||
| October 28 | Violist Don Krishnaswami | ![]() |
| One of the Boston area's most talented
violists returns to showcase two significant
contributions to the viola literature of the 20th
century by major composers Milhaud and Hindemith.
The Boston Globe describes Don as
"noteworthy among the solo
voices." With Joy Cline Phinney as
accompanist, the concert will be a "joyful"
collaboration reuniting two Juilliard graduates who
attended this famous music school together. A lush,
romantic work by Brahms concludes the program. |
||
| March 2 | Fenwick Smith, flute and Sally Pinkas, piano |
![]() |
| What could herald the coming of spring better
than a silver-throated flute? And who better to do
it, than this 29-year veteran of the Boston Symphony
Orchestra? He and long-time collaborator Ms. Pinkas
will perform together and separately French and Czech
works. Both are known throughout New England for
their superb artistry and numerous recordings. After
thirty seasons, Mr. Smith's annual recitals in
Jordan Hall are a prominent feature of Boston's
concert calendar. Ms. Pinkas has performed as a
soloist with the Boston Pops, as well as many other
orchestras and chamber groups, and also is Professor
of Piano at Dartmouth College. |
||
| April 6 | Mezzo-soprano Heidi Skok | ![]() |
| After her outstanding recital debut in November
2006 at Boston's Jordan Hall at New England
Conservatory, she sang two concerts within the next
six months at New York's Carnegie Hall with the
New England Symphonic Ensemble. Miss Skok is a
specialist in the repertoire of Handel, Webern, Berg
and Strauss. Between 1992 and 2004, she performed in
numerous productions at the Metropolitan Opera under
the prestigious conductor James Levine. The
Washington Times has written, "Miss Skok
is blessed with one of those voices that lingers in
the memory." |
